Following the success of the exhibition Cristóbal Balenciaga | Shoes from Spain Tribute, the first monographic exhibition dedicated to Cristóbal Balenciaga in Italy, this collector’s book celebrates the legacy of the Haute Couture master and the excellence of Spanish footwear.

Promoted by the Federation of Spanish Footwear Industries (FICE) and supported by ICEX, the main sponsor of the initiative, the book represents the natural continuation of the exhibition and reaffirms the cultural and artistic value of Made in Spain.

Conceived and curated by Javier Echeverría Sola, the project was created to showcase the dialogue between Cristóbal Balenciaga’s vision, craftsmanship, and contemporary Spanish footwear, paying tribute to the couturier’s genius and the connection between fashion and Spanish savoir-faire.

Captured in images of extraordinary quality, Cristóbal Balenciaga’s works are documented by renowned photographer Juan Carlos Vega, who also oversaw the book’s layout, based on the graphic identity of Elisa Ossino Studio. The volume includes twenty-five original dresses, from leading Spanish museums and private collections: Museo Cristóbal Balenciaga in Getaria, Museo del Traje in Madrid, Museu del Disseny in Barcelona, and the private collections of Sonsoles Díez de Rivera and de Icaza, Antoni de Montpalau, Alventosa-Talamantes, Teresa Berganza, and the Swarovski Heritage Collection.

Alongside these extraordinary pieces, the book features images of contemporary shoes made by twenty-five Spanish footwear brands, in collaboration with various artisans and artists, selected as ambassadors of Spanish footwear creativity, innovation, and excellence. This allows Cristóbal Balenciaga’s work to be presented as adaptable total looks for 2025, demonstrating its timelessness and the connection between tradition and innovation.

This publication was created to spark interest in Cristóbal Balenciaga’s figure and work and to invite the reader to discover the magic that continues to inspire his extraordinary legacy, becoming a must-have for lovers of fashion, haute couture, craftsmanship, and Spanish footwear.
